Image 1

MKM’s Oli Sansom contested in the first ever British Supercross Championship in the Echo Arena, Liverpool on Saturday.

Oli did well throughout the day and put in some really quick lap times on his brand new 2009 Suzuki LTR450, Oli qualified for the Final which was to take place in front of the 8,000 plus spectators on the Saturday evening. Oli had a great start and got the holeshot round the first corner, he managed to hold on to second for the majority

of the race but finished in a very rewarding 3rd place on his first appearance on the Suzuki. Oli commented “it was a great experience, I have never done anything like this before. The Fox suspension was working very well and we easily adapted it to suit the larger supercross jumps, I got great grip from the BKT tyres and was very pleased with the overall performance of the bike”

Image 1

MKM's youngest sponsored rider, Woody Jackson, held his early lead to win the 2008 Maxspeed Events Quad Class 1 event. Woody, aged 4, was the youngest rider in the class and fought off six other riders to win 5 of his 6 races on his Suzuki LT50. Next season Woody competes in class 2 quads, one of the most competitive grass track classes in which riders of up to 8 years old ride modified 50cc automatic quads which hit speeds of 45mph. MKM will continue to support Woody next year as he prepares for the NORA 50cc class in 2010 on MKMs new 50cc Cobra quadracer.

(14/10/2008) - PORKY BRINGS HOME THE BACON
Simon Davies

THE MKM SUZUKI KINGQUAD 4x4 POWERS TO A WIN AT THIS YEARS WESTON BEACH RACE!

Ridden by Simon 'Porky' Davies last years winner of the class. We had high hopes for this year but knew there would be some tough competition. To our delight Simon rode the Kingquad to win with a whole lap lead over second place with a creditable 15 laps.

Simon says “It was a great race. I knew I had the lead from early on, with only one quick refuel pit stop and the bikes reliability I knew a win was possible.”

(14/10/08) - MKM ARE NOW COBRA QUAD DEALERS

With the news that Chris & Joe at NORA-MX will be running a 50cc race class we feel there will be a call for the dominant Cobra in the South, as it has proven to be very successful in the North.

We will be holding a demonstration day here at our own track on Sunday 16th November where riders can test the machines, please call to book in. We are now taking orders for the 2009 models for delivery in February 2009.

(07/10/2008) - DEACON AND BARRETT TAKE GREAT 8 WIN
QRA Great 8

This weekend saw Anthony Deacon and Sam Barrett of MKM Rocketman Suzuki win the Iron Quad class of the QRA Great 8.

This year’s event took place just outside of Neath, North Wales with the track comprising of forest, open land and even some parts of the Wales Rally GB WRC course to make up an 8km lap.

Opening with a Le Mans style start, Deacon and Barrett completed the 8-hour endurance race using the same bike in hour and a half sessions until the last two hours where they did an hour each.

The team rode well in the persistent rain and by keeping pit times and bike handover times to a minimum, their LT-R450 had completed 42 laps by the end of the 8-hour event despite a puncture in the first half of the day.

Anthony Deacon commented after the event, “I’m really pleased we’ve won, our LT-R450 didn’t skip a beat even after 8 hours of constant riding. The whole team did really well too, keeping things slick in the pits really helped us to complete more laps.”

All of MKM Rocketman Suzuki will be competing next weekend at Weston Beach Race.

PDV 2008 - Race Report- Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th August 2008
THE PDV LTR450

Wednesday
We had planned to write a Pont De Vaux diary; little did we know we should have started writing it months ago, the amount of work and organization, not to mention money that has gone in to these 12 hours of racing is beyond belief. I am currently on the M1 around junction 12 I have Tim "Rocketman" Wedgwood keeping me company in the back of the fully loaded Rocket van driven by Jason "Minty" Smith and his best mate, Ant "Ironman" Barrett. Tim has very kindly kitted the van out with a PC for the diary report.

Thursday
We arrived at PDV at 4.43am and headed to the sports bar about 8amish to hook up with the usual suspects. We left the bar about 3pm to set up the pits having caught up on the gossip. As usual the pits were in a terrible state and it hadn’t rained YET. Luckily we had prepared for the worse and brought 5 8x4 sheets of Plyto stop us getting trench foot. Set up completed and the Polish team moved out of our space we headed to the catering stand where we deposited half a cow. They have been doing the catering for us for years and we always bring them a few T shirts to reciprocate for the use of their charcoal. Early night had by all following a 1am cabaret in the PDV Hole shot Bar. We slept soundly listening to the amazing Irish Karaoke of the Mc Night camp. Great, we were sandwiched between Irelands Karaoke and the Polish Rattle Gun as they practiced wheel changing till dawn.

Friday
Scruteneering, Noise testing and hurricanes made for a pleasant day. I still don’t understand the point of noise testing in a Marque with lots of people in it and lashing rain on the roof by officials that clearly have no idea and use different noise meters depending on your nationality. We fooled them this time with a bit of mange tout speak. The Jason Smith prepared LTR sailed through and we headed down town for the usual 30 seconds of humiliation on the stage. The quad parade back in the dark was as always impressive and gave the riders a chance to test our Baja Design Lights.

Saturday
Qualifying Started at 12 noon and we ended up 29 with a quick 3min 2 seconds from Jason Wildman. The first session was going fantastic, Jason Started and soon got us up to P.12. The TV in the camper was giving live updates and then all of a sudden we dropped to P.40. With consistently good times we were very concerned that our transponder had packed up. Sure enough it had and so had most of them. Reassured by the organisers that manual counting was in operation we continued. Steve Atkins took over the bike after 1h.10m riding well as usual until 1h 45min in when he took a tumble nose diving into the decent of a table top. The bike gamboled from end to end Smashing the lights and Bars at the front and the grab rail, rear lights and the Doma pipe at the back. Amazingly he got back on the bike loosing only 30 seconds on the lap, a further 5 minutes is all the team needed in the pitts to rebuild the bike which previously took weeks to build.

Whilst all this was going on the safety car was out and clearly all was not well. The chronolux lap scoring had crashed completely and so had the manual count. The 3 hour session was stopped after 2 hours and the organizers had no choice than to go back to the 1hour 30 minute point to complete the stage. We finished the first session 23.

You certainly don’t expect that to happen in an event like this, there were a lot of upset people protesting. We as usual had recorded our own lap times and are certain that we lost a lap. On the other hand Steve’s off came after the cut off point so we were lucky in one respect.

By the time the night session started Chronolux was back up and running. Atkins started well, and then discovered a nerf bar was loose, we pitted to discover 1 foot peg bolt had sheared off and the other one had lost its thread. A small unexpected problem which we resolved temporarily with a ratchet strap. Wildman went out, after 1 lap the nerf had given up. He pitted where the team were ready with a plan and tools. We took no longer than a few minutes to put it right, but every pit stop costs a lap, we had now had 2 unscheduled stops and time working on the bike. Wildman went out for an hour and Andrew Davies finished the night. We ended up in the 40s for this session, thanks to the foot peg bolts. Our goal of a top ten finish was fast becoming impossible.

Sunday
The final 5 hour session was started by Davies, 40 places down on the lead for a Le Mans start, O joy the battery had less power than a Woolworths own brand AAA. We willed it to fire the bike up which it did eventually leaving Andrew to fight back from 52 in the field, he did well moving up to 32 then our second Doma pipe spat the end off. He was flagged down and forced to pit. With another unscheduled pit and hot exhaust to change things were grim. Atkins went out riding consistently Wildman finished the race and we ended up 39 overall. Chris Murphy’s gang ended up 38 which was even more upsetting than all our problems combined.

We left for home in good spirit having had a great time.
After all it’s not all about the result, that’s racing!

Image 1

With a new line up and new livery, MKM Rocketman Suzuki turned up to the 2nd annual QRA Big Sky Margate beach race (23-24/02/08) to show everyone why they are a force to be reckoned with this year.

With a strong line up of 5 riders including Lewis Hill (#55), Josh Chilcott (#105), Kevin Chilcott (#115), Liam Ryland (#205) and Ant Deacon (#52), the boys in yellow certainly made a visual impact. Even more so when they all qualified in the same group.

The heats went well with good riding from the whole team but particularly by Josh and Kevin Chilcott and Liam Ryland who made it to the grand final.

With the track being well churned up by this stage of the game it created some difficulties for the racers. The competition was tough but Josh Chilcott and Liam Ryland, with the aid of their Suzuki LT-R450s, managed to finish a very impressive 2nd and 3rd overall.

All involved felt the weekend was a well-organised event and the 10,000 strong crowd all seemed to enjoy the spectacle. Tim Wedgwood, Team Manager commented, “It was a fantastic weekend dominated by the team both in the pitts and the group”.

The team will next be racing at the QRA Shakedown, Basingstoke on March 16th.
