| MKM Rocketman Suzuki GB Victorious at Great 8 once again!! |
|---|
Following last year’s victory and 3rd place finish at the great 8, MKM Rocketman Suzuki GB entered two teams in to the 8 hour long endurance race at Hannington in Hampshire to defend their title. Jason Wildman & Carl Bunce were riding bike #1 and Sam Barrett & Scott Linley #3. The track was in excellent condition and patches of sunshine made it a great day for all. Jason and Carl were using only 1 quad, although they were allowed to use 2. they used the same Suzuki LT-R450 that was used in their 5th place finish as Pont de Vaux the week before (visit the Racing News page for more details on this). The LT-R450 was raced hard for 12 hours + 2 hours for practice/qualifying, it returned from Pont de Vaux, MKM Rocketman Suzuki team mechanic, Jason Smith changed the engine oil & filter, rear brake pads, cleaned the air filter and gave it a general check over and clean up, ready to endure another 8 hours of punishment. Jason started the race with the ‘le mans’ style start, and lead the race from the start, the due maintained the lead throughout to win by a clear lap, with no problems to the LT-R what so ever. The junior team, Sam & Scott also rode consistently well to finish in 3rd place overall and subsequently winning the U21 class. Competing in the Ironman class, battling the whole 8 hours on his own was another young, up and coming MKM Rocketman Suzuki rider, Laurence Stopps. Laurence also rode consistently well for the duration and finished 7th in his class. Jason Wildman commented “It was a fantastic event, the Suzuki LT-R450 was on top form, to lead the race from start to finish is a great achievement, Carl was also in great form on the track, however I feel he let me down in the Great 8 pint’s of beer challenge at the presentation after the race” Unfortunately, Carl was unavailable to make any comprehendible comments.

| MKM Rocketman Suzuki GB take 5th at Pont de Vaux!! |
|---|
MKM Rocketman Suzuki GB travelled to the spectacular Maxxis Pont de Vaux Mondial du Quad, near Dijon, France this weekend. Representing the team was; #33 Jason Wildman, Carl Bunce and Chris Cooper #34 Sam Barrett, Kieran Power and Sheldon Seal #35 Antony Barrett, Chris Murphy and Geoff Sharp The team's were armed with one Suzuki LT-R450 each, prepared to endure 12 hours of punishment around the notorious course. The team arrived at the race site Thursday afternoon to assemble the pit area and make some final touches to the quads. On Friday the teams signed all the necessary paperwork at the administration tent, fitted their transponders and had their machine checked at technical control. With all that out of the way, all 106 quads & teams travelled in a convoy to Pont de Vaux town for a presentation on stage. On Saturday, practice/qualifying started at 10am for 2 hours, Team #33 qualified in 24th, #34 in 33rd and the veteran team #35 were 78th on the ‘Le Mans’ style start grid. The 12 hours of racing were split into 3 stages. The first was a 3 hours session, starting at 3pm Saturday afternoon, all 3 teams got off to a great start, our Pro team of Wildman, Bunce and Cooper, were soon in the top 10 and pushing hard for more places, the ‘Young Guns’ Barrett, Power and Seal were also riding very well and were positioned mid 30’s, mean while the veterans had pushed through the pack from 78th on the grid, to the 40’s. The first stage finished at 6pm, Team #33 were 9th, #34 were 43rd and the veterans #35 were 47th. Stage 2 ‘The night stage’ started at 8pm and lasted for 5 hours until 1am Sunday morning. The teams start every stage in the position they originally qualified in. The Pro team were riding very well and were soon in the top 3, some clever pit stops and a lack of mechanical problems were on their side and before long they were in 1st position being chased by some of the best teams from around the world, they rode consistently well through the night with minimal pit stops and no problems to finish the stage in 5th position. The ‘young Guns’ #34 were flying and were pushing close to the top 10, they managed to stay in the top 20 until the final hour of the night stage, they were due a quick pit change to refuel and change riders, but Sheldon who was riding at the time, didn’t come down the pit lane, we knew there was a problem, Sam and Kieran ran down the pit lane to find and help Sheldon get going again, they appeared pushing the bike back to the pits, The back-up lights had accidently been switched on, which caused the battery to over heat and fail, the pit crew quickly replaced the battery and the team were back on their way, but they had lost some valuable time and places, they finished this stage in 48th. The veteran team rode consistently well through the night and finished 38th. After a good nights sleep, on Sunday the riders returned to the track for the 3rd and final stage, starting at 1pm and lasting 4 hours, the quads were parked in ‘Parc Fermé’ over night and guarded so no maintenance work could be carried out. It was an extremely hot day and the riders knew they had to take care of the quads to avoid over heating and ensure they endured the sever conditions. All three teams made a quick early pit stop to refuel, replace the air filter, check the oil level and top up the coolant. The Pro team were again in the top 10 and gaining places all the time. The ‘Young Guns’ were also riding well and into the top 20. The veterans had pushed into the 30’s but were suffering from exhaustion and old age. The Pro team finished 7th in the final stage, and over the 12 hours they had completed 221 laps making them the first British team across the line, and finishing in a fantastic 5th place overall. The ‘Young Guns’ finished 19th in the final stage, taking a very respectful 33rd overall completing a total of 205 laps. The Veterans were not far behind, finishing in 37th in the final stage, giving them a 37th place finish overall, having completed 203 laps. MKM Rocketman Suzuki GB team manager Ant Deacon commented “I’m very proud, it has been a fantastic weekend. The Suzuki LT-R450’s we used were excellent. All 3 teams completed the 12 hours with minimal problems, this is the key factor if you want to do well at Pont de Vaux. To Finish 5th and also be the first British team is superb, and proves the Suzuki LT-R450 is a very appealing, reliable quad. On behalf of MKM Quadsport, I would like to congratulate the whole team, not just the riders, but the pit crew, Mums and Dads, and everybody else who contributed to making this weekend not only a very successful weekend, but an extremely enjoyable one too. Well Done!!”

One of MKM’s 2010 sponsored riders Carl Bunce was equipped with a new MKM prepared Suzuki LT-RMZ450, a Suzuki LT-R450 with a Suzuki RM-Z450 motor, built by MKM to give more constant power and carry less weight. Carl got off the a great start in race 1 and race consistently well to finish in 4th. Race 2 also started off very strong for Carl, his new hybrid Suzuki was pulling extremely well out of the gate and once again sitting in the front pack. The track was getting very rough very quickly and the Suzuki was getting a good testing, Carl Rode well and finished in an impressive 6th. Race 3 was very much the same with Carl flying off the start line, holding 3rd position for the majority of the race, finishing 5th. These consistent finishes were enough to gain Carl a fantastic and well deserved 3rd overall. Carl commented on the days events, “I’m very please with today, it’s a great start to the season for the MKM Rocketman team, my new Suzuki was performing superb all day, I’m looking forward to the rest of the season”. | Success at Floyon! |
|---|
This weekend was the 6th edition of 10 Heures de Thierache in a small village in France called Floyon. MKM Rocketman Suzuki GB travelled with great enthusiasm and a prospect for some great results, having entered 4 teams into a total of 80. Teams were as follows: 1 #2 Jason Wildman, Carl Bunce, Stef Murphy 2 #55 Liam Ryland, Sam Barrett, Kieran Power 3 #8 Antony Barrett, Chris Murphy, Geoff Sharp 4 #9 Ant deacon, Laurence Stopps, Nigel Munday The teams each had 2 MKM Rocketman prepared LT-R450’s. The race format was 1 hour practice/qualifying on the Saturday morning, followed by the 1st stage for 2 hours in the afternoon, the 2nd stage was 3 hours in the evening finishing in darkness at 10pm leaving the final stage of 5 hours on the Sunday morning. At the end of each stage, the quad that each team was using, carrying the transponder would be locked away so no maintenance work could be done. All of the teams rode very well, producing some excellent results.. Team 1 qualified in 3rd place, finishing 1st in stage 1, 2nd in stage 2 and 1st in stage 3. Officially giving the team an overall 2nd place, however they feel very unfortunate to have not taken the victory due to some confusion and a lack of communication with the officials. A chequered flag was shown half way through the 3rd stage, Stef Murphy stopped with the other quads until realising the other leading riders were passing, noticing this he put his helmet back on and tried gaining back the time lost through stopping, having created a 2 minute gap between him and the other riders before this, it was a bitter blow. The team went on to win the 3rd stage by 30 seconds, however this wasn’t quite enough to take the overall win. Team 2, Liam Ryland, Sam Barrett and Kieran Power also rode extremely well and put in some very fast consistent lap times, taking the Under 21's title and finishing 7th overall. Team 3, Antony Barrett, Chris Murphy and Geoff Sharp finished an excellent 15th overall and winners of the veteran’s class. Team 4, Ant Deacon, Laurence Stopps and Nigel Munday had a very enjoyable race finishing in the top half of the leader board in 39th place. A great weekend for all involved, Well Done.

| Ryland Wins UK GNCC Round 1! |
|---|
|
This weekend (21st March) was the first round of the UK GNCC at Rugby (Warwickshire) held by the Dragon Quad Racing Club. The track was in great condition and Liam Ryland was set and ready for the 2 1/2 hour enduro. This was Liam's first enduro since suffering a broken wrist at last years Weston Beach Race in October. It was also his first outing on the 2010 MKM Rocketman Suzuki LT-R450. The race didn't start to well and Liam de-mounted his LT-R450 when he entered the woop section off the start. Liam got back on his machine and started to fight his way back to the front. By half way point Liam was in the top three and quickly catching the leaders, after 1 quick refill using the IMS Dry break dump filler Liam was on top but fighting hard with second place Clint Eagle. They were changing places and having a real battle. Liam managed to pull a good minute on Clint in 2nd and took the first round win. Liam commented after the race "I had a bad start and got my hand caught up in the new thumb throttle I am using, I usually use a twist throttle but after my crash I find it easier to use a thumb operated throttle. My LT-R was handling really well and the Fox Shocks were making the rough feel really smooth making it a lot earier for me to maintain a high speed. This is a great start to my season and a real high for me". |
| MKM Rocketman Claims top 2 British Riders at Le Touquet 2010! |

Representing the team were, Jason Wildman, Carl Bunce, Sam Barrett and Anthony Barrett. All bikes were prepped and set up to suit the rough sandy conditions. All riders got off to a great start, starting from the middle to the back of the 480 strong race pack. After lap one, Jason had pulled from 124th to 60th, gaining places every minute. Before long he was into the top 20 and the bike was performing very well in the rough conditions. Jason fought hard to the end of the race and earned himself 13th position and the first British rider across the finish line. Carl Bunce started 385th on the grid, he pitted early suspecting a fault with the bike, no fault was found and Carl was sent back out to continue the race, as the track got rougher, Carl got stronger and managed to fight his way to a very well deserved 18th place and was the 2nd british rider to cross the finish line. Sam and Anthony Barrett rode very well, Sam finishing 79th starting from 123rd on the grid, and Anthony started from 413th on the grid and fought himself back upto 124th position when on the final lap his bike cut out due to over-heating and was forced to retire. At the end of the race Jason Wildman commented "I really enjoyed the race, the bike performed superbly, the Fox shocks set up was working very well in the rough sand, I managed to keep the stops to a minimum, stopping only twice for fuel and goggles, this helped to keep me in a strong position.
